At Home Rose Gold Hair!

Before the sadness of moving out of our beautiful antique apartment, my long term roommate and best friend decided we should have one more roomie bonding night enjoying something we both love... HAIR!

While she is the queen of keeping healthy hair between cuts and I am the hair dying fanatic who often kills my hair with new ideas to later cut it myself at home... We took off to Sally Beauty Supply in search of colors which would inspire us through the end of graduation.

CCB had set her heart of rose gold since before we left for the store, but I was simply looking for something which would provide me some fun while still being appropriate for teaching interviews. After asking for opinions on products from the beauticians at the store, we had settled on our colors and raced home to put the dye on before we could talk ourselves out of it.

Being the hair-dye guru of the house, we took to lightening the ends of CCB's ever so slightly before applying the pink. To do so we used Ion Color Brilliance Creme Permanent Hair Color in Light Ash Blonde 8A-8.1. The color was mixed with the ion Color Brilliance Sensitive Scalp 30 Volume Creme Developer.

We let the product process in her hair for about 30 minutes before rinsing with warm water and blow drying the hair dry again.

Once CCB's hair was dry, I separated out her bottom layer and mixed equal parts of Clairol's Flare Me Vivid Permanent Creme Color in Make 'Em Blush Pink with more of the ion Color Brilliance Sensitive Scalp 30 Volume Creme Developer. I consider the bottom layer of hair anything from the middle of your ear down. (Depending on the size of your head and how much hair you have you can make that call as you please.)

When applying the mixture to the bottom layer I made sure to leave some root underneath, but covered more hair than I would for the top layer. To avoid the straight across ombre look I applied product to the bottom third of the separated hair then blending it out with light upward strokes using my tint brush.

After completing the bottom layer, I took the next one from her temple all the way back leaving a little bit more base color between her scalp and the blended out color. That being said when doing her top layer, I blended her color high up framing her face and lowering it to about right above the top of her ear to blend.

The color sat on her head for 45 minute before rinsing with cold water in the shower. When working with bright colors one will want to shower with cold water because it keep the hair follicles closed so not as much color escape during washes.

After a blow-dry and style our product came out as...

Overall, I believe both products really worked well on her hair and did not dry out her ends too much. I do think the pink would have shown up on her hair even if we did not pre-lighten, but it would definitely have been a deeper color. If you are looking to go rose gold I would definitely recommend this product for individuals who are lightening dark hair or have a dirty blonde color. It gives you more of the pink than the gold, but it will do less damage to hair because you do not have to lighten it to a level 9 or 10. I would additionally recommend going in with a color sensitive conditioning treatment after dying your hair EVER because of the chemical reactions effect on it long term.
